Overview
The Green Team is an interactive educational program that empowers students and teachers to help the environment and slow climate change through waste reduction, recycling, composting, pollution prevention and energy conservation. The Green Team provides resources to help its members learn how to reduce pollution in their schools, homes and communities and rewards classes that successfully complete one or more of the suggested activities.
Program Implementation
APT is responsible for overall management of the Green Team program. We conduct outreach to schools and the media to increase school participation in environmental stewardship activities, maintain a database of participating schools, revise and mail out Green Team kits, mail out Green Team lending library materials, coordinate the distribution of recycling and idling reduction equipment, communicate with participating schools through electronic newsletters and email, maintain and update the Green Team web site, and manage an incentive awards program.
Summary of Results
Participation in the Green Team more than doubled this year. 714 teachers from 308 Massachusetts schools representing over 130,500 students registered for the 2006-2007 school year.
