Overview
In 2002, LIPA asked APT to re-purpose one of our Field Representatives who was servicing LIPA on behalf of our MotorUp Premium Efficiency Motor Program. They wished to use him to help support the CCP in the field with HVAC, motor and lighting distributors and installers.
The role included enrolling these trade allies, program education, uncovering opportunities with developers, architects, planners and building owners who could benefit from building energy efficiency into their design plans.

Later a second and third field representative were trained by APT and put in the service of the CCP.
While day to day direction and management comes from LIPA, APT oversees all aspects of our staff’s activities, track and consult on progress to goal strategies, and planning.

The goal of the CCP is to uncover new construction opportunities where, through various financial incentives, energy efficient HVAC, lighting and other measures can be specified in the design process, before the construction is begun.

Implementation
APT Field Representatives have many varied responsibilities. Trade allies are routinely trained on the Program offerings and benefits to them and their customers. They are given assistance in identifying qualified products, processing the LIPA forms, so they can effectively promote the proper products to their customers, with or without the Rep’s expertise. Field Reps uncover opportunities by meeting with developers, architects, planners, building owners, construction firms, and even city and town permitting records.

Field representatives also give formal presentations to trade organizations, at business meetings, municipal groups, trade shows and conventions.

After uncovering and developing potential opportunities, they work closely with the respective LIPA Account Executive to ensure follow through, and track the progress to completion, including doing the final post inspection.

Summary of Results
LIPA’s goals for the CCP are both in gWh savings and education outreach training.  Over the years, the gWh goal has gone from 10 gWh to 28 gWh savings and these have been met each year.  Additionally, outreach and training goals are exceeded annually.
