Overview
Program
started in 1998 as an upstream motor vendor incentive program
for motor vendors in New York State. Enrolled motor vendors
were paid an incentive for each qualifying NEMA Premium®
motor sold to an eligible end-user. In 2005, NYSERDA ended
motor the incentives and since then the program has concentrated
on developing motor management programs with motor vendors
and end-users.
Implementation
Program Representatives accompany motor vendors
on sales calls to end-users to explain the various NYSERDA
programs available to the end-user and encourage the end-user
to agree to and participate in a motor inventory. The motor
vendor and end-user provide the manpower to perform the
inventory and the program representative provides the analysis
based on the end-user’s business case and custom variables
with various software tools. Once the analysis is completed,
the program representative generates two reports. The first
report lists the motors that are candidates to be replaced
immediately with NEMA Premium® motors. The second report
lists the motors that are candidates to be replaced at failure
with NEMA Premium® motors. Both reports provide the anticipated
energy savings on a motor by motor basis. The motor vendor
uses the reports to complete negotiations with the end-user
and the end-user uses the reports to demonstrate the potential
energy savings if the recommendations made in the reports
are followed.
Summary of Results
The
program has completed
89 inventories and
has over 8,300 motors
in our database. The
program has identified
more than 7.7 million
kWh and more than 1,070
kW in potential energy
savings if all the
candidate motors are
replaced when suggested
by the program’s analysis. Overall,
52 percent of the motors
inventoried are candidates
to be replaced at failure
with a NEMA Premium®
motor and almost 12
percent of the motors
inventoried are candidates
to be replaced immediately
with a NEMA Premium®
motor. Additionally,
approximately 85 percent
of the motors inventoried
are not NEMA Premium®
motors.
